The invention provides layered bulletproof ceramic and a preparation method thereof.The layered bulletproof ceramic comprises a high-hardness area and a high-toughness area which are sequentially arranged, the high-hardness area comprises first ceramic material layers and second ceramic material layers which are alternately stacked, and the high-toughness area comprises third ceramic material layers and fourth ceramic material layers which are alternately stacked; the preparation raw materials of the first ceramic material layer, the second ceramic material layer, the third ceramic material layer and the fourth ceramic material layer comprise silicon carbide and/or boron carbide, a carbon source and an auxiliary agent, and the total expansion coefficients of the first ceramic material layer and the second ceramic material layer are different; the total expansion coefficients of the third ceramic material layer and the fourth ceramic material layer are different. The layered bulletproof ceramic is subjected to functional gradient structure design and strong interface layered structure design at the same time, the double reinforcement effect is achieved, and the bulletproof performance of the material is greatly improved.
