The invention discloses a bridge pier column protection device and a using method thereof.The bridge pier column protection device comprises a bridge pier and a bearing cylinder, the bearing cylinder is arranged on the outer side of the middle of the bridge pier in a sleeving mode, the outer side of the top end of the bearing cylinder is rotationally matched with a coaxially-distributed protection ring, and an auxiliary assembly is arranged at the position, below the protection ring, of the outer side of the bearing cylinder; the auxiliary assembly comprises a hollow circular-ring-shaped auxiliary cover, the outer side of the auxiliary cover is sleeved with an upper air bag and a lower air bag which are vertically arranged, the upper air bag and the lower air bag communicate with the upper side and the lower side of the outer portion of the auxiliary cover correspondingly, and a gear ring is fixed to the bottom side of the protection ring. The device has the beneficial effects that the protection ring makes contact with the floating object to buffer impact force, the piston ring is driven by the two-way screw to slide up and down in the auxiliary cover in a reciprocating mode, the piston ring is used for pushing air in the auxiliary cover to be alternately conveyed into the upper air bag and the lower air bag, and therefore the floating object is actively pushed away through the two sets of air bags which expand alternately; the protection action of the pier is achieved, and the protection effect is better.
