The invention relates to a digging finger (132) of a bucket (130) designed to be mounted on a digging chain (8) of a device (4) for digging ballast below a railway track (2), said digging finger (132) being integral and comprising: a holding portion (132b) rotationally symmetrical about a reference axis (X) of said digging finger (132), said holding portion (132b) being designed to be accommodated in a cylindrical cavity (134) of said bucket (130); and a tip (132a) designed to protrude from the cylindrical cavity (134) of the bucket (130), the digging finger (132) being characterized in that the retaining portion (132b) comprises at least one annular channel (132c) configured to receive at least a portion of the fixed rod (135), designed to provide axial retaining of the retaining portion (132b) in the cylindrical cavity (134) such that the finger (132) is free to rotate about its reference axis (X).
