The invention provides an anhydrous gypsum self-leveling material and a preparation method thereof. The self-leveling material comprises the following components in parts by weight: 6500-9000 parts of II type anhydrous gypsum; 500 to 1500 parts of cement; 500 to 2000 parts of mineral powder or fly ash; 5-20 parts of a water reducing agent; 5-20 parts of a defoaming agent; and 3-15 parts of a water retention thickening agent. According to the self-leveling material, the II-type anhydrous gypsum is used as a main material, the cement and the mineral powder or the fly ash are used as auxiliary materials, the water reducing agent, the defoaming agent and the water-retaining thickening agent are added, all the components interact, the mineral powder or the fly ash has a good excitation effect, metal salt excitants do not need to be added, and the problem that the excitants and the water reducing agent conflict does not exist; therefore, the cement has the characteristics of high flowability, high strength and high hydration performance, and has excellent performance; the II-type anhydrite takes ardealite as a raw material, the source is wide, and resource utilization of the ardealite is facilitated.
