A door opening system for a rear door of a motor vehicle is disclosed in which the rear door first moves rearwardly and outwardly away from the housing of the vehicle and then swings outwardly away from the front end of the vehicle. The automobile housing is free of B-pillars so that a large, convenient opening is provided for the front door to open forward and the rear door to open rearward. The door opening system comprises an automobile shell; a rear slide rail attached to the automobile housing; a rear door hinge assembly configured to move along the rear slide rail; the rear door is mounted on the rear door hinge assembly, and the rear door hinge assembly moves along the rear slide rail in the direction facing backwards and away from the automobile shell before the rear door can rotate outwards on the rear door hinge assembly.
