The double-cone type steel bar connector comprises a clamping piece set which is of a fusiform structure formed by continuously arranging a plurality of clamping pieces in the circumferential direction, the interior of the clamping piece set is through in the axial direction, and an internal thread is arranged in the length direction of the clamping piece set; the two sleeves are symmetrically arranged at the two ends of the clamping piece set, any sleeve is of a hollow frustum-shaped structure and coaxially arranged at the end of the clamping piece set in a sleeving mode, and the connecting faces of the sleeves and the clamping piece set are attached to each other. The invention further discloses a method for connecting the double-cone type steel bar connector and the steel bars at the two ends through the auxiliary installation tool. Stable connection of the reinforcing steel bars is achieved through self-locking of the inclined faces of the conical sleeve and the fusiform clamping piece set in cooperation with the meshing effect of the internal threads of the clamping piece set and the reinforcing steel bars, semi-automatic connection of the reinforcing steel bars can be achieved in combination with a matched auxiliary installation tool, and the connection precision and the working efficiency are effectively improved.
