The invention relates to a method for producing a cermet substrate (1), comprising:-providing a ceramic element (30) and at least one metal layer (10), the ceramic element (30) and the at least one metal layer (10) extending along a main extension plane (HSE),-connecting the ceramic element (30) to the at least one metal layer (10) for forming the cermet substrate (1), in particular by means of a direct metal bonding method, the at least one metal layer (10) is connected by means of a hot isostatic pressing and/or welding method, and processing the at least one metal layer (10) by means of a machine tool (40) and/or laser in order to at least partially define the geometry of the side surfaces (15) of the at least one metal layer (10) which run non-parallel to the main extension plane (HSE).
