The invention belongs to the field of bridge seismic mitigation and isolation, and discloses a staged variable-stiffness viscous damper and an installation method and application thereof.The staged variable-stiffness viscous damper comprises an outer cylinder body and two inner cylinder bodies arranged in the outer cylinder body, pistons are arranged in the two inner cylinder bodies respectively, piston rods penetrate into the outer cylinder body and are connected with the pistons, and the piston rods are connected with the outer cylinder body. A group of dowel bars are uniformly arranged on the piston rod in the circumferential direction, friction blocks are connected to the two ends of each dowel bar, a base plate is mounted on the inner cylinder body close to the end part of the outer cylinder body through a bayonet lock, a first spring group is arranged between the friction blocks and the base plate, and a second spring group is arranged at the end parts of the inner cylinder body and the outer cylinder body; a friction damping module is further arranged between the outer cylinder body and the inner cylinder body. The problems that a traditional damper is insufficient in energy dissipation capacity and short in service life are solved through dual synergy of a friction damping energy dissipation mechanism and a viscous damping energy dissipation mechanism, and the energy dissipation efficiency and durability of the damper are improved.
