The steel cofferdam system comprises a steel cofferdam, a water stopping system, an inner supporting system and an overhead rail system, the steel cofferdam is of a sealed cylindrical structure and arranged on the periphery of a bearing platform in a surrounding mode, and the water stopping system is arranged at the bottom of the steel cofferdam and used for sealing the bottom of the steel cofferdam; the inner supporting system is supported on the inner side of the steel cofferdam in a layered mode and used for resisting water pressure on the outer side of the steel cofferdam, the hanger rail system is arranged on the bottom face of the main beam and annularly arranged in a circle along the position over the steel cofferdam, and the hanger rail system is used for hanging the steel cofferdam and adjusting the elevation and the plane position of the steel cofferdam. The invention further discloses a mounting method of the steel cofferdam for bridge pier maintenance and reinforcement. The water stopping air bag which is arranged at the bottom of the cofferdam and tightly attached to the surface of the original bearing platform is used for inflating and stopping water, the problems that cofferdam bottom sealing concrete consumes materials and is difficult to dismantle are solved, and the problem that the operation space is limited when the steel cofferdam for reinforcing an old bridge is installed and dismantled in blocks at the bridge site is solved through the overhead rail system arranged at the beam bottom.
