The viscosity reduction type polycarboxylate superplasticizer is prepared from the following raw materials: isopentenol polyoxyethylene ether, unsaturated carboxylic acid, an unsaturated functional monomer, a redox initiator, a chain transfer agent and an alkaline solution. The viscosity reduction type polycarboxylate superplasticizer with excellent performance is obtained by adding functional monomers with different acrylate units for structural optimization. The polycarboxylic acid water reducer has a good viscosity reduction effect, improves the workability of concrete, has excellent dispersing performance under the condition of low mixing amount, effectively solves the problem that high-strength concrete is difficult to pump, is low in production cost, simple in preparation process, stable in performance and small in environmental pollution, and well meets the requirements of concrete construction.
