The invention discloses an inerter capable of limiting output. The inerter comprises a mass block, a friction plate, a shell, a ball nut, a thrust bearing, a ball, a lead screw and a friction sleeve. A ball screw is realized through a ball nut, a thrust bearing and a ball and is arranged in the shell; a friction plate and a friction sleeve are arranged between the mass block and the ball nut; a thrust bearing is arranged between the ball nut and the shell, so that the ball nut can only rotate relative to the shell; the screw rod is arranged at the axis of the shell and only translates relative to the shell; when the screw rod translates, the ball nut and the mass block are driven to rotate; and when the output force of the mass block is greater than the friction force between the friction plate and the friction sleeve, the mass block is decoupled from the movement of the ball nut. From the perspective of an inerter and a vibration reduction and isolation principle, the inerter effect is realized by using parts such as the ball screw and the mass block, and the friction plate is arranged between the mass block and the ball nut, so that the force output of the inerter is limited, and meanwhile, the dynamic characteristics of the inerter are kept within a certain range.
