The invention provides a vibration type cable tightening machine for suspension bridge main cable construction and a compaction method.The cable tightening machine comprises a fastening device, a moving device, a hydraulic system and a vibration device, the fastening device is arranged on a main cable in a sleeving mode, and the hydraulic system is connected with the fastening device and used for driving the fastening device to compress the main cable; the moving device is installed at the top of the fastening device and used for driving the fastening device to move along the main cable, and the vibration device is used for generating pressure waves under the action of vibration force and transmitting the pressure waves into a pressed steel wire. On the basis of pressing of the fastening device, vibration force is provided through the vibration device, a series of pressure waves generated by the vibration force can be transmitted into pressed steel wires, internal friction force between the pressed steel wires is reduced, the steel wires are made to move, repositioning of the steel wires is facilitated, and the steel wires are prevented from being damaged. And air among the steel wires is easier to reduce under the action of vibration force, so that the purpose of compaction is achieved, and the porosity of the main cable is greatly reduced.
