The invention belongs to the technical field of suspension bridge main cable tightening construction, and particularly relates to an intelligent cable tightening machine for a suspension bridge main cable and a cable tightening method. The device comprises a walking mechanism, a squeezing device, a hydraulic pump station, a counterweight frame, a controller and a pull rope displacement sensor. The controller is connected to the counterweight frame; each hydraulic jack is connected with a pull rope displacement sensor; and each pull rope displacement sensor and the hydraulic pump station are respectively in electric signal connection with the controller. Three groups of diameters are actually measured through the six pull rope displacement sensors, the real-time void ratio and the out-of-roundness ratio are obtained through the three groups of diameter values, and then adjustment is implemented through operation of the hydraulic pump station. According to the method, the construction organization problems that the error of conventional manual jack pressure value reading is large and the efficiency of manual porosity calculation is low are solved, the data error of a hydraulic system is reduced, the calculation efficiency and accuracy are improved by calculating the porosity through the system, and the main cable tightening construction efficiency is greatly improved.
