The invention discloses a two-dimensional transition metal compound and a preparation method and application thereof based on MXene, the two-dimensional transition metal compound is a compound formed by transition metal elements and non-metal elements, and the non-metal elements comprise one or more of carbon, nitrogen or boron elements; the two-dimensional transition metal compound has a rock salt structure and has a two-dimensional lamellar or accordion morphology; the preparation method comprises the following steps: carrying out heat treatment on the MXene material in a vacuum or inert gas atmosphere. According to the preparation method, the technical problem that a two-dimensional powder material is difficult to prepare by a preparation method in the prior art is solved, a new technical path is provided for preparation of a transition metal compound, and a novel two-dimensional material is obtained; the method has potential application prospects in the fields of semiconductor electronic devices, photoelectric devices, photocatalysis, anti-corrosion coatings, wear-resistant coatings, high-temperature-resistant coatings, electromagnetic shielding and wave absorption.
