The invention relates to a construction method for reconstructing a steel truss arch bridge by using an existing bridge, which comprises the following steps of: after a side span steel truss arch is closed, sequentially erecting a lower bracket, a side straining beam, an upper bracket and an end section of a main span steel truss arch from bottom to top on one side, close to a main span, of the side span steel truss arch; the method comprises the following steps: erecting a bridge floor bracket with an overhanging cantilever on a bridge floor of an old bridge, erecting a section of a middle straining beam to a closure opening through the overhanging cantilever, and adjusting the position of the section to finish the closure of the straining beam; a middle section of the main span steel truss arch is erected on the upper support and the bridge floor support, and folding of the main span steel truss arch is completed; installing a temporary wind brace, installing a sling, dismantling an upper support and a bridge floor support, tensioning the sling, and dismantling a lower support; according to the sequence from the midspan to the side span, the bridge floor of the old bridge is cut off segment by segment, the cross beam is installed, and the bridge floor system is installed.
