The invention provides a zirconia microsphere and a preparation method thereof, and the preparation method comprises the following steps: mixing and stirring N, N '-methylene bisacrylamide, acrylamide, a dispersant and water to obtain slurry A; mixing 2.5 Y-ZrO2 calcined powder and the slurry A, performing ball milling, adding a defoaming agent and an initiator, and uniformly mixing to obtain slurry B; taking the slurry B as a dispersion phase and liquid paraffin as a mobile phase, carrying out mobile phase shearing to obtain a microsphere precursor, and adding a catalyst solution into the middle end of a microchannel to obtain a cured zirconium oxide microsphere biscuit; and cleaning and drying the zirconium oxide microsphere biscuit, and carrying out low-temperature presintering and high-temperature sintering to obtain the zirconium oxide microsphere. According to the method, low-temperature pre-sintering and high-temperature sintering are combined, so that the density of the zirconium oxide microspheres is improved, the low-abrasion zirconium oxide microspheres are obtained, and the method has great application space in the fields of grinding dispersion of high-added-value ceramics with very high product purity requirements, biochemistry, medical industry and the like.
