The invention discloses a method for positioning and installing a stiffening chord gusset plate on a steel truss girder, which comprises the following steps of: placing a cross-shaped positioning rod piece with a first prism and a second prism arranged at two ends of a longitudinal rod and a third prism and a fourth prism arranged at two ends of a transverse rod at an upper stiffening chord gusset plate installation position on a bridge deck; the cross center of the cross-shaped positioning rod piece is aligned with the mounting center of the upper stiffening chord gusset plate, and the longitudinal rod and the transverse rod face the longitudinal bridge direction and the transverse bridge direction correspondingly; a total station and a cross-shaped positioning rod piece are matched to measure longitudinal-bridge-direction gradient calculation parameters and transverse-bridge-direction gradient calculation parameters at the mounting position of the upper stiffening chord gusset plate, and a longitudinal-bridge-direction gradient and a transverse-bridge-direction gradient at the mounting position of the upper stiffening chord gusset plate are calculated according to the longitudinal-bridge-direction gradient calculation parameters and the transverse-bridge-direction gradient calculation parameters respectively; and cutting the gradient at the bottom of the upper stiffening chord gusset plate according to the longitudinal-bridge-direction gradient and the transverse-bridge-direction gradient at the mounting position of the upper stiffening chord gusset plate. The invention aims to improve the mounting accuracy of the upper stiffening chord gusset plate.
