The invention relates to the technical field of industrial solid waste recovery, and discloses a method for preparing high-strength alpha-semi-hydrated gypsum (calcium sulfate) from flue gas desulfurization gypsum, which comprises the following steps: 1) removing harmful impurities such as calcium sulfite, iron and the like in the flue gas desulfurization gypsum by a hydrothermal acid method; and 2) adding a compound crystal modifier, and carrying out hydrothermal catalytic conversion to obtain the high-strength alpha-calcium sulfate hemihydrate. The alpha-type calcium sulfate hemihydrate (gypsum) obtained by the method is short-column-shaped and high in density, the average particle size is about 50 microns, the breaking strength can reach 6.5 MPa or above, and the compressive strength can reach 54.5 MPa or above.
