The invention belongs to concrete admixtures, and particularly relates to a polycarboxylate superplasticizer and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises two main steps. The preparation method comprises the following steps: firstly, preparing modified low-molecular-weight polyether A through transesterification, and secondly, carrying out copolymerization on the obtained polyether A, an allyl polyether macromonomer, an oxidizing agent, a reducing agent and a chain transfer agent to obtain the polycarboxylate superplasticizer. According to the preparation method, the dispersing performance of the water reducing agent is realized by using specific monomers and reaction conditions, the finally obtained water reducing agent can be widely applied to preparation of various types of concrete, the working efficiency is improved, and the performance of the concrete is improved.
