The material level detection method comprises the steps of obtaining a video image of a hopper; according to the video image, determining at least one of the screen mesh gap number, the occurrence duration interval of the stirring blades and the length proportion of the stirring shaft; and determining the current material level of the hopper according to at least one of the screen mesh gap number, the occurrence time interval of the stirring blades and the length proportion of the stirring shaft. Aiming at the complex working condition of actual concrete stirring, the number of gaps of the screen, the occurrence time interval of the stirring blades and the length proportion of the stirring shaft can be comprehensively analyzed, and then the current material level of the hopper can be accurately determined.
