The rolling element (4) is a silicon nitride sintered body containing silicon nitride particles, a rare earth element, and an aluminum element, and in the silicon nitride sintered body, the crystal grain size of beta-type Si3N4 particles is in the range of 15-180 DEG in crystal orientation, and the sum of the area of the crystal grain size of the upper size is in the range of 30% of the area of the total crystal grain size. At least one of the condition that the equivalent circle diameter of the crystal grain diameter of the beta-type Si3N4 particles is 1-4 [mu] m and the condition that the aspect ratio of the beta-type Si3N4 particles is 3-6 is satisfied.
