The invention relates to a spacer (I) for insulating glass units, at least comprising: a polymeric hollow profile (1) comprising a first side wall (2.1) and a second side wall (2.2) arranged parallel thereto, a glass inner wall (3) connecting these side walls (2.1, 2.2) to one another; an outer wall (5) arranged substantially parallel to the glass inner wall (3) and connecting these side walls (2.1, 2.2) to each other; the invention relates to a polymer hollow body (1), comprising a glass inner wall (3), an outer wall (5), side walls (2.1, 2.2), a cavity (8) enclosed by the side walls (2.1, 2.2), the glass inner wall (3) and the outer wall (5), a moisture barrier (20) on the first side wall (2.1), the outer wall (5) and the second side wall (2.2) of the polymer hollow body (1) wherein the moisture barrier (20) comprises at least a first barrier layer (21) and a directly adjacent second barrier layer (22), each deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD), -the first barrier layer (21) and the second barrier layer (22) each have a thickness of at most 15 nm,-the first barrier layer (21) and the second barrier layer (22) are based independently of one another on a nitride, oxide, sulfide or fluoride compound.
