The invention discloses porous ceramic and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: mixing ceramic raw materials to obtain slurry to be cured; performing blank making on the to-be-cured slurry to obtain a to-be-sintered green body; and sintering the green body to be sintered to obtain the porous ceramic, wherein the ceramic raw materials comprise the following components in parts by mass: 25-30 parts of yttria-stabilized zirconia and 30-40 parts of a pore forming agent; the yttrium-stabilized zirconium oxide comprises the following components in percentage by mass: 86-96% of zirconium oxide and 4-14% of yttrium oxide. The invention has the beneficial effects that the porous ceramic with high strength and improved product yield and the preparation method thereof are provided.
