The invention relates to the technical field of metal smelting auxiliary materials, in particular to ladle filler sand and a production process thereof.The ladle filler sand comprises, by weight, 50%-85% of chromium ore, 10%-40% of silica sand, 0.1%-0.6% of carbon black, 0.2%-0.8% of graphite, 0.1%-0.5% of graphene and 4%-10% of mullite sand; wherein the total weight percentage of the carbon black, the graphite and the graphene does not exceed 1%; the production process comprises the following steps: uniformly mixing the chromium ore sand, the silica sand and the mullite sand, and adding the mixture into the carbon black, the graphite and the graphene which are uniformly mixed. The mullite sand and the graphene are added, the reaction of the mullite sand and the silica sand can improve the refractoriness of the ladle filler sand and increase the sintering temperature, the good heat conduction capacity of the graphene enables heat in the ladle filler sand to be spread more evenly, the synergistic effect of the mullite sand and the silica sand is beneficial to construction of a sintering layer moderate and stable in thickness, the high steel ladle self-opening rate can be kept, and the sintering temperature can be increased. And steel seepage is not easy to occur.
