The invention relates to a desertification soil water retention improvement structure and method. The desertification soil water retention improvement structure comprises an enclosure frame, and a first sandy soil layer, a water retention layer, a second sandy soil layer, a surface strengthening layer and a one-way water guide assembly which are sequentially arranged in the enclosure frame from bottom to top; the first sandy soil layer comprises sandy soil and graphite powder in a mass ratio of 1: (0.005-0.03); the water-retaining layer comprises an organic decomposed material and a water-retaining agent in a mass ratio of 1: (0.05-0.2); the second sandy soil layer comprises sandy soil and bentonite in a mass ratio of 1: (0.005-0.05); the surface strengthening layer comprises hardened particles obtained by granulating fly ash, sandy soil and concrete in a mass ratio of (3-5): (4-6): 1; the one-way water guide assembly comprises a plurality of hook-shaped hollow pipes. According to the invention, a specific chemical component space distribution is constructed, and a physical space with super-strong water retention of a plant root system is formed. Compared with the prior art, the method has the advantages of being high in wind and sand resistance, high in raw material utilization rate, convenient in water pouring, good in water retention and improvement performance, remarkable in desertification control effect and the like.
