The invention relates to a method for producing a carbonate mineral composition, in particular for use as a cement substitute in hydraulic binder compositions, in which a (CaO + MgO)/SiO2 weight ratio is in the range of 1.2 to 5.0:-grinding to obtain a powder; -mixing the powder with water; -putting the paste consisting of mineral components and water into a reactor having a gaseous atmosphere containing CO2; -carbonating the paste in the reactor for a predetermined time; drying the material obtained after hardening to a constant weight; or-grinding the mineral component to a Brinell fineness of from 3,000 cm < 2 >/g to 10,000 cm < 2 >/g to obtain a powder; -injecting a CO2-rich gas into the grinding machine while grinding in the grinding machine, carbonating the components; mixing the powder with water in a solid-to-water weight ratio of between 0.3 and 1.5 to obtain a paste, or by pre-wetting with water in a solid-to-water weight ratio of between 0.03 and 0.2; drying the material obtained after hardening at a temperature of 60-85 DEG C, preferably at a temperature of 80 DEG C, until the weight thereof is constant; -the resulting material is deagglomerated and sieved.
