The invention relates to the technical field of ceramics, in particular to a light-transmitting brick and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: mixing green body slurry and light storage slurry, pressing, calcining to obtain a green body, applying patterns on the surface of the green body, applying glaze slurry, and further calcining to obtain the light-transmitting brick. The light storage slurry contains a luminous metal substance, and the light-transmitting brick obtained by adjusting the mixing ratio of the green body slurry to the light storage slurry and the addition amount of the auxiliary luminous substance has moderate fluorescence intensity; the composition of the raw materials of the green body slurry is reasonably controlled, so that the whiteness of the obtained light-transmitting brick is in a range of 62.1-70.8; the difference value between the linear thermal expansion coefficient of the body and the linear thermal expansion coefficient of the glaze layer of the light-transmitting brick is controlled within a reasonable range, so that the light-transmitting brick has no cracks, the surface of the brick body is smooth, and the surface effect is good or excellent; meanwhile, the firing system and the raw material composition of the glaze layer powder are adjusted, so that the obtained light-transmitting brick has good light transmittance; the light-transmitting brick is high in hardness and low in mass loss after being subjected to a wear test.
