A docking assist assembly includes: a mounting portion (1127) configured to be supported by an upper surface of a dock; an arm portion (1101) extending transversely to the mounting portion; and a bow retaining portion (1151) including a first side (1153) defining a first surface at least partially facing the second side, and a second side (1155) defining a second surface at least partially facing the first side, the first side and the second side are configured to at least partially receive a bow of a ship between the first side and the second side; wherein at least one of the arm portion and the bow holding portion is movable relative to the mounting portion so as to at least partially absorb a docking impact force of the vessel.
