The invention relates to a preparation method of aluminum nitride powder and the aluminum nitride powder thereof.The preparation method comprises the steps that a mixture of first melamine, an auxiliary agent and a formaldehyde aqueous solution is dissolved in deionized water to obtain a first solution, and water-soluble inorganic aluminum salt is dissolved in deionized water to obtain a second solution; pouring the second solution and ammonia water into the first solution to obtain gel, and freeze-drying the gel to obtain a melamine-formaldehyde/aluminum hydroxide precursor; spreading the melamine-formaldehyde/aluminum hydroxide precursor in a graphite crucible, placing the graphite crucible in a constant-temperature area of a corundum tubular furnace, spreading second melamine in the corundum crucible, placing the corundum crucible at an air inlet to ensure that the second melamine is gradually decomposed, and carrying out high-temperature carbon thermal reduction reaction to obtain a mixture of carbon and aluminum nitride; and carrying out decarburization treatment on the mixture to obtain the aluminum nitride powder. The preparation efficiency of the aluminum nitride powder can be improved, and the performance of the aluminum nitride powder is improved.
