The hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose obtained by the preparation method of the modified hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose has the advantages that the substitution degree of methoxy groups is improved; and then vinyl tri (2-methoxyethoxy) silane, allyl carbamate and polyvinyl alcohol are grafted to form modified hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, so that the adhesion and hydrophobicity of the modified hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose are improved. The prepared modified hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is applied to mortar, so that the mortar has good adhesive property, hydrophobic property, mildew-proof property and mechanical property, and can be used for a long time in an easily humid place.
