The lining (10) has two profiled frame elements (40) extending in longitudinal direction (106) along a surface to be covered in spaced relationship to each other. A membrane element (12) includes a face side and a reverse side, where the membrane element is connected to the frame elements by an attachment unit that engages from behind where the membrane element is free to move into and out of an interstice between the frame elements when in a loose state. A dimensionally stable protective cover (80) is provided on the reverse side of the membrane element for protection.
