The invention relates to a monitoring device, which is used to find an obstacle in a moving area when a revolution door is opened and/or closed. The monitoring device is provided with a sensor device,which moves along with the door leaf of the revolution door. The sensor device is provided with at least one distance sensor and an analyzing-evaluating device, which is used to analyze and evaluatethe distances, which are measured by the distance sensor under different door-open angles. Furthermore, the monitoring device is provided with a signal generating device, which generates a signal, when a distance measured under a prescribed door-open angle is deviated from a correspondingly prescribed distance, wherein relative to a virtual wall, a corresponding distance sensor is arranged, corresponding to a door-open angle, a prescribed distance value is determined, and aiming at one final position of the revolution door, the virtual wall is defined.
