The invention relates to a self-propelled cleaning machine (1) for cleaning travelable and/or travelable, preferably rigid ground surfaces (13), such as traffic areas, roads, airports and industrial facilities. The cleaning machine comprises a chassis (2) having at least one motor-driven running axle (5) with at least one wheel (16 to 19) that can be steered in order to influence the forward direction. The running axles are oriented transversely to the advancing direction (F) of the cleaning machine (1) and are arranged in sequence at intervals; and the cleaning machine has a waste collection container (9), which is formed on the chassis (2) and is designed for emptying, for receiving waste by means of a suction unit, which is placed on the chassis (2) and has a suction fan. The suction unit is in line connection with a suction mechanism (11) arranged at the front end of a suction air line (11).
