The present invention relates to a pressed dry mortar shaped body for producing a fresh mortar for mortaring, preferably for mortaring wall formers by the thin bed method, for example planed insulating wall bricks or planed insulating wall blocks, or for mortaring tiles by the thin bed method, or for producing a fresh mortar in the form of a rendering mortar, a trowelling mortar for drywall installation, a repair mortar or a specialty mortar for interiors. The present invention further relates to a receptacle containing a plurality of such dry mortar shaped bodies and to a process for producing such pressed dry mortar shaped bodies. The pressed shaped body is produced from a dry mixture comprising - at least one mineral binder, - at least one aggregate, - at least one organic water retention agent, and - optionally a disintegrant. The water retention agent which is neither too fine nor too coarse has a d10 value of ≥ 70 pm and/or a d50 value of ≥ 175 μm and/or a d90 value of ≥ 300 μm determined by laser granulometry according to ISO 13320:2009.
