Fire or smoke barrier
A smoke or fire barrier is disclosed for closing an opening in a building. The barrier comprises a roller 6, having a central longitudinal axis, from which a curtain 8 can be unwound for deployment and to which the curtain can be rewound for retraction. The roller is supported at either end by a pair of end plates 12. A cruciform restraint or bearing 20 is located between an end plate and the roller. The restraint is slidably mounted on the end plate for radial movement of the roller in a first direction substantially orthogonal to the axis of the roller. The cruciform restraint is also slidably mounted to the roller for radial movement of the roller in another direction, substantially orthogonal to the direction of the roller and substantially orthogonal to the first direction. The fire barrier may also include one or more intermediate relieving rollers 30 positioned along the length of the roller to accommodate changes in the diameter of the roller as the screen is wound or unwound.
