The present invention relates to building tools, in particular the present invention relates to hawks of the type used to hold plaster for plastering or mortar for pointing or similar materials. Described is a hawk of the type used for carrying plaster or mortar. The hawk comprises a substantially planar rectilinear plate 11 with first and second faces 12, 13 and at least four edges. The hawk further comprises at least first and second walls 14m 15, 16, 17 associated with respective first and second plate edges, each of said first and second walls extending from the first face of the plate and being inclined with respect to the plane of the plate. At least one of said first and second walls 15 includes an operatively upper wall portion 22 which extends substantially perpendicularly with respect to the plane of the plate 11.
