Interconnected channel grove pillar and stud bar pillar construction
A construction system and method uses pillar arrangements each comprising an outer hollow pillar 1 and an inner pillar 2 slidably received within the outer pillar. The inner pillar extends beyond the bottom of the outer pillar, and is countersunk at the top of the outer pillar, such that the extending bottom part 11 of one inner pillar arrangement can be inserted into the top countersink 12 of another, axially aligned, pillar arrangement. The inner and outer pillars 1, 2 have complementary channels/grooves and studs/projections allowing sliding engagement. The outer pillars 1 have means for engaging with other pillars or with construction elements such as panels or blocks so that a modular block structure can be constructed using pillars and panels/blocks. In a preferred embodiment the system uses large-scale blocks 13, 14 in the form of cubic containers having a respective pillar arrangement at each corner allowing the blocks to be stacked and connected vertically and horizontally. The system may be used for spanning large distances such as valleys (not shown) or large bodies of water, e.g. by sinking blocks from the water surface (see figure 1h).
