The retractable blind system 100 comprises a roll of fabric coupled to a tube at a first end and a bar 108 at a second end, at least one cable 110 coupled to the bar, a drive mechanism to wind the fabric on and off the tube, at least one spool which the cable winds on or off when the tube rotates, and a cable tensioning mechanism 200 mounted in the bar and comprising at least one moveable pulley 204 mounted on a biasing element 220. The biasing element may be a compression spring. The at least one moveable pulley may be mounted between the ends of the bar, and be associated with first and second cable guides 202, 230 in the form of pulleys, wheels or pegs located at the end of the bar. The spool may comprise a tapering cable retaining surface 212 having circumferential grooves. The bar may comprise an open channel along its longitudinal length. Also claimed is a method of manufacturing a retractable blind system.
