A flow restrictor 1 for drainage systems having a body 2 with an aperture 3 through the body through which fluid flows, and a mounting surface 6 for mounting the flow restrictor 1 on or in a drain outlet; and a restrictor portion 4; the restrictor portion 4 is movable from a first position to a second position in order to restrict fluid flow through the aperture 3. An alternative flow restrictor (50, Fig. 8) has a body comprising a plurality of apertures (52, 53, Fig. 8) through the body (51, Fig. 8) through which fluid flows, and a mounting surface for mounting the flow restrictor (50, Fig. 8) on or in a drain outlet; and one or more restrictor portions (54, 55, Fig. 8); the restrictor portions (54, 55, Fig. 8) can be inserted into the apertures (52, 53, Fig. 8) to limit fluid flow therethrough. The flow restrictors are for use with a blue roof and/or rainwater harvesting.
