A restrictor 10 for limiting the opening of a window or door comprising first and second fixing part 16, 18 each fixed to a respective first and second surface 12 18 which are movable relative to each other; and a connecting element 20, preferably a flexible cable, for connecting the first and second fixing parts and comprising a first mating part 22 at one end and is received by the first fixed part. The first fixing part and the first surface combine to provide a locking geometry which captures the first mating part and prevents its removal from the first fixing part. The fixing part may comprise a body with a void formed within it and an aperture 24 for receiving the first mating part. There may be an identical set up on the second fixing part (118 Figure 2) meaning that the two fixing parts are interchangeable and the mating parts of the connecting member are identical.
