The roofing assembly 26, preferably for conservatories 10 or greenhouses, has a primary roofing structure 12 having a plurality of glazing bars 14, a secondary roofing structure 24 having a plurality of joists 28 mounted to the glazing bars, a light-impermeable roof covering 30 mounted to the secondary roofing structure, and at least one insulation layer 32,58 directly or indirectly mounted to the primary or secondary roofing structures. The roof covering may be lightweight tiles 52, the joists may be timber joists, and the glazing bars may include a supporting lip 36 or projection to which the joists can be mounted. An insulation layer may be attached to the primary structure by battens 54. An air cavity 48,60 and internal facade 64 may also be included. Also claimed is a method for providing an insulated light-impermeable roof for a conservatory, and a conservatory roof conversion kit.
