Bonding components under pressure
Components are bonded together using a device that travels along the components and includes wheels 1504, 1506 which applying pressure to parts of the components. The device also includes an actuator 1514 that urges the wheels 1504, 1506 together. An adhesive tape, especially double-sided closed-cell foam with viscoelastic acrylic core, is preferably applied between the components. Preferably the components comprise a glass panel 1500 located above a metal frame 1501. Preferably thermal bonding or ultrasonic welding is used to bond the panel 1500 to the frame 1501 which rests on a precision table 1502. Disclosed is use of a jig having three pairs of polyurethane wheels 1504, 1506 urged together by a pneumatic ram 1514 and a tubular metal chassis, for bonding the panel 1500 to a frame 1501 having a depending flange 1528. The composite produced is used as a door on an electronic display housing.
