The bead 10 for use in the application of a surface coating, such as plaster or render, at an internal corner where two surfaces meet, comprises a pair of elongate flanges 11 interconnected along respective inner side edges having respective front surfaces lying at an angle from 90 to 150 degrees with respect to each other, each front surface comprising a longitudinally extending rib or lip 13 extending therefrom at a position outwards of the inner side edges. The flanges may include rearward extending barbs 14 for engaging a surface to be plastered and retaining the bead in position during plastering. There may be a central web 12 connecting the two inner edges and lying at an equal angle to each front face. The bead may comprise apertures 15, 16. Also claimed is a method of applying a surface coating by running a tool along the rib to act as a guide to maintain an even depth of covering.
