Rail installation
Disclosed is a rail assembly 10 comprising a rail having an upper face 16, a lower face 22, first and second side faces 18, 20 and a resilient cushion 14 engaged with the side faces and lower face. Also disclosed is a rail system and method of installing a rail system each comprising the rail assembly. The rail system comprises a channel for receiving the rail assembly; the channel defining a rail cavity 47 and having an open top to allow the rail assembly to be received in the cavity. The resilient cushion and channel may be provided with corresponding detent formations 52, 54 which cooperate to secure the rail assembly to the channel. A support casing may be provided; the support casing 15 defining the rail cavity. There may be no retaining formations between the rail and the resilient cushioning; retention may be achieved by friction when the resilient cushioning is compressed on insertion into the channel. A locking system 70 may be used to lock the rail assembly to the channel; the locking system comprising an elongate socket 72 in the resilient cushioning and an elongate locking member 76 receivable by the socket.
