Monitor for underground infrastructure
A remote monitoring device module 200 for mounting to a utility vault access cover 10, such as a man-hole cover over a manhole for underground utilities, telecoms equipment, switch gear and the like. (see also exploded diagram figure 1) The device is arranged to sense the internal environment of the vault, such as the temperature, humidity and harmful toxic gasses, such as carbon monoxide, methane etc. that may come from burning electrical cables etc. Sensors may also be for detecting electrical arcs, stray voltages, water, smoke, pressure, light, and could sense audio or include a camera. The device module has sensor(s) 212,214,216, a pcb 210 carrying comms module (220 see fig 7) with antenna (230 see fig 7) and a psu, such as batteries 232. PSU is in internal container 234 that thus provides a spaced-apart low rf attenuation antenna pathway 244 (central cavity). (See also exploded diagrams in figures 5 and 7 where batteries can be in an outer ring container defining a central antenna passage). The cover 10 may have an aperture 16 carrying a rf transparent cap (28, 38). A systems diagram is in figure 6.
