Apparatus for taking overhead line measurements
An apparatus 300, for measuring physical parameters (e.g. contact wire height, stagger, catenary wire height) of a railway includes: a carriage which is movable along a first beam 301 via a drive means; and a laser rangefinder 306 mounted to a second beam 302. An end of the second beam is connected to the carriage to connect the second beam to the first beam. The laser rangefinder may wirelessly communicate with a portable device 307 (e.g. tablet). In another embodiment, the apparatus includes: a first rail engagement arm 303 located at a first end of a beam; and a second rail engagement arm 304 located at a second end of the beam. Each arm has a respective set of wheels/rollers for engaging an upper surface of a respective rail. In yet another embodiment, a measurement apparatus measures: distance to an overhead wire in a first direction; and lateral distance to a structure (REFOS) in a second direction. The apparatus has a frame with first and second beams arranged perpendicularly to each other. A first laser distance measuring device, mounted on the second beam, projects a laser beam, and takes a measurement, in the first direction. A second laser distance measuring device, mounted on the first beam, projects a laser beam, and takes a measurement, in the second direction. An electronic angle measuring device may measure tilt/super-elevation of the track.
