Disclosed is a foundation unit 1 for supporting a structure, the foundation unit provided in a plurality of parts 10, arranged to be coupled together before use, wherein the foundation unit is arranged to be at least partially buried in, and to receive, material. The unit may include a base 15, in which may be a plurality of drainage holes 16, and a plurality of upright walls arranged at the circumference of the base. These walls may include reinforcing ribs 13 and a gripping means 14. The foundation unit may also comprise a plurality of support pillars 11 arranged to receive a bolt for attaching the structure to the foundation. The foundation unit may be formed from a plastics material. The plurality of parts may be substantially identical and may comprise a coupling receiver so that the multiple parts may releasably couplable to form the foundation unit.
