A method of operating a work vehicle 10 comprising a swing apparatus 11 comprising an arm arrangement 14. A control system stores or receives an initial maximum allowable swing speed, which is updated using a user-initiated calibration process comprising 1) performing a test angular displacement about a swing axis 33, 2) reducing the swing speed to zero, 3) measuring an angular stopping displacement using a swing angle sensor, 4) if the angular stopping displacement is not within a predetermined range, repeating steps 1)-4), and 5) if the angular stopping displacement is within a predetermined range, determining the maximum allowable swing speed and updating the maximum allowable swing speed. The user may be alerted when calibration is required, which can be performed at a worksite. The work vehicle may have different configurations with the update corresponding to the current work configuration.
