Reversible gate locking mechanism
A locking mechanism assembly suitable for a fence gate, wherein the assembly is configured to be easily coupled and uncoupled from the gate, and is configured to be reversible allowing the same assembly to be used in either a left-handed or right-handed orientation. Said assembly comprises a mounting frame 10 which is coupled to the gate, with mounting features 12a,12b on either side of the mounting frame 10, a locking plate 20 with mounting features 21 that couple to the mounting features 12a,12b on one side of the mounting frame 10, and a locking mechanism 30 which couples to the surface of the locking plate 20 via suitable apertures. the locking mechanism may be a handle and cyinder lock or may be a sliding bolt 31 retained by a padlock 60. Preferably mounting frame has aperture for sliding bolt and locking plate 20 may have bent flanges at edges with aperture aligned with frame for sliding bolt 31. An outer locking plate may be provided to obscures access to the padlock.
