To provide an authentication system and an authentication device, capable of utilizing a location of a user for authentication.SOLUTION: An authentication system 1 includes: a portable terminal 10 held by a user; and an authentication device 20 for authenticating that the user holding the portable terminal 10 is a user existing in a first area or a second area adjacent to the first area. The authentication device 20 includes: determination sound output means 262 for outputting first determination sound to the first area and outputting second determination sound differing from the first determination sound to the second area; validity collation means 265 for determining whether or not the user of the portable terminal 10 is a valid user; and existence authentication means 266 for authenticating that the user of the portable terminal 10 is a valid user existing in the first area, when it is determined by the validity collation means 265 that the user of the portable terminal 10 is a valid user and a result of analysis shows that the portable terminal has collected the first determination sound.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
